Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice developed in the early 1900s by spiritual teacher and healer Mikao Usui. The word Reiki combines rei ("universal" or "spiritual") and ki ("life force energy"), referring to the subtle energy believed to flow through all living things. As a Reiki Master Practitioner, I facilitate this flow through gentle touch or hands held just above the body, with the intention of encouraging relaxation, supporting the body's natural healing processes, and promoting balance in mind, body, and spirit.

At the heart of Reiki is the understanding that we are deeply interconnected with ourselves, one another, and the natural world. This connection can be beautifully illustrated through the timeless symbol of the Tree of Life, representing harmony between the Earth and the Cosmos.

The roots reach deep into the Earth, symbolizing grounding, stability, and nourishment. The branches extend toward the heavens, representing spiritual growth, expansion, and connection to universal energy. The trunk serves as the bridge between these realms—much like the Reiki practitioner—allowing energy to flow freely, creating balance and harmony within.

In Reiki, ki (also known as chi or qi) is the vital life force energy that animates all living beings. Just as healthy ecosystems depend on sunlight, rain, and fertile soil, our overall wellbeing is believed to depend on the balanced flow of this life force. Stress, emotional challenges, and the demands of daily life may leave us feeling depleted or out of balance. Reiki offers a peaceful space for restoration, encouraging deep relaxation and supporting the body's natural capacity to return to equilibrium.

Many people seek Reiki to support their overall wellbeing and report benefits such as:

  • A deep sense of relaxation and reduced stress

  • Relief from physical tension and discomfort

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Greater emotional balance and mental clarity

  • A renewed sense of peace, grounding, and connection

  • Enhanced support alongside conventional medical care

Reiki is increasingly offered as a complementary therapy in some hospitals and integrative healthcare settings to help patients manage stress and promote comfort during medical treatment. While research suggests Reiki may support relaxation and improve overall wellbeing for some individuals, it is intended to complement—not replace—professional medical care.
Ultimately, Reiki serves as a gentle bridge between the physical and energetic aspects of ourselves. Through grounding practices and mindful intention, practitioners connect with both the Earth's nurturing energy and the expansive energy of the universe, inviting a harmonious flow that encourages balance, presence, and inner peace. Like the Tree of Life, Reiki reminds us that we are rooted in the Earth, connected to something greater, and supported by the natural rhythms of life.
